Connor Buchanan
Connor Buchanan is an attorney and shareholder with the law firm of McCreary, Veselka, Bragg & Allen, P.C. (“mvba”). His legal practice includes advising taxing units, appraisal districts, and local governments on the issues of ad valorem taxation, school finance, and economic development tools related to property taxation. Connor joined the firm in 2015 after graduating from Baylor Law School and was named mvba’s youngest-ever shareholder at only 30 years of age. Connor serves on mvba’s Executive Committee and assists with the firm’s management, including chairing mvba’s Client Development committee. In this role, Connor is responsible for training attorneys and staff on how to better engage and serve new clients and coordinating mvba’s growth efforts.
Connor is also heavily engaged in the advancement of the property-tax system and the education of property tax professionals. He is a frequent speaker for the Texas Association of Assessing Officers and the Tax Assessor-Collectors Association of Texas, where he instructs on relevant property tax, appraisal, and other local government issues. As a certified instructor for the Texas Association of Assessing Officers(“TAAO”), Connor teaches curriculum required by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (“TDLR”) necessary for chief appraisers, tax assessors, and their staff to receive professional certification. Connor’s dedication to the advancement of the profession and teaching prowess was recognized in 2023 when he was named the 2023 TAAO “Instructor of the Year,” an award given in recognition of outstanding achievement in education and instruction of property tax professionals.
Connor has deep ties to Central Texas, growing up in the Greater Waco area, attending Baylor Law school to receive his Juris Doctorate, and returning to work in mvba’s Waco Office in 2020. Since returning to McLennan County, Connor has taken an active role in his community through numerous leadership and philanthropic organizations. Connor is a Leadership Waco Class XXXVIII alumni and has remained active with the Greater Waco Chamber of Commerce’s leadership initiatives. He currently serves on the selection and curriculum committees for both Leadership Waco and Teen Leadership Waco, helping identify and facilitate the growth of current and future leaders in the Greater Waco Area. Connor has also taken an active role in fundraising and community development through various non-profit organizations, including fundraising for the Central Texas Aerospace Alliance, the American Cancer Society, and CASA of McLennan County, and will begin serving on the Board of Directors for Caritas of Waco in 2025. In 2024, Connor was named a “Waco Under 40” Honoree, a program that recognizes young leaders who distinguish themselves in their careers and community.
Connor and his wife Taylor are active members at Harris Creek Baptist Church. They currently serve in the Church’s marriage ministry by mentoring newly married couples. In his spare time, Connor enjoys exercising, attending Baylor athletic events, and spending time with family.
